Doris Rogers Russell, 66, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 3, 2017.

Born in Escanaba, Michigan she was the daughter of Maryetta and Harry Rogers, who served in the United States Coast Guard, and she moved with her family to Grand Haven, Michigan, before relocating to Wilmington, Delaware in 1960. As an outgoing and vivacious teenager, she was awarded "First Runner Up" in the 1969 Coast Guard Festival Pageant in Grand Haven, Michigan and graduated from P.S. DuPont high school in Wilmington, Delaware in 1970, where she was a member of the Color Guard and many social clubs. She was incredibly proud of her Native American Indian heritage, as she was a member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi.

Doris worked in the telecommunications industry for most of her professional career, serving Diamond State Telephone Company, Bell Atlantic, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Avaya. After a brief retirement, she elected to work for the Delaware Department of Corrections. She was to begin her well-deserved retirement and fulfill her dream of travelling and enjoying time with her husband, daughter, siblings, and friends.

She is survived by her adoring husband, Craig Joseph Russell; her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Buck Payne; loving siblings Patricia (Frank) Favaloro, Marian (Larry) Corliss, Harry (Pat) Rogers, J.R., William (Christine) Rogers, Thomas (Nancy) Capitano, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Deeply loved and admired by family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and fellow BINGO patrons, Doris will be missed by many.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5-7pm at Beeson (Brandywine Valley Funeral Care) Funeral Home, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Helena’s Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10am, followed by burial at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE.
