EVA MAE VICKERS, AGE 91 OF Wilmington

On Saturday, November 11, 2017, Eva flew into the arms of her loving LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ. She valiantly fought Alzheimer’s Disease during her ‘long goodbye’ to her adoring children and grandchildren. Eva was a homemaker and her husband of 50 years, Edward H. Vickers, preceded her in death in 1995.

Eva was born on March 19, 1926 in Barboursville, WV and was the youngest of seven children.

(From her children and grandchildren) All of Mom’s life was dedicated to serving others. She loved deeply and unconditionally, not only her seven children, but everyone who came within reach of her loving and caring arms. Friends of her children and others called her ‘Mom’ and she went to Heaven holding many ‘secrets’ of those who confided in her. Mom taught us to know and love Jesus and she demonstrated a contagious joy in that love despite the hardships she endured. Our memories are flooded with her beautiful voice singing her favorite hymns, singing songs like Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Make the World Go Away, and country songs that included her gift of yodeling. She was a great story-teller and captured the attention of everyone with her amazing sense of humor. Mom loved her entire family and sacrificed so much to demonstrate the love she felt for us, and her grandchildren too. Mom was the champion of every card game, Dominoes and Yatzee she played, laughing all the way as she was winning. We can still hear her say, "Hahaha, I skunked ya!" Her grandchildren told her their secrets and knew they could depend upon her for anything she was able to give. She was their grandmother, their friend, playmate and their confidante and she dedicated her life to being a real presence in their lives by giving of herself and her time. Proverbs 31:28 says, "Her children arise up and call her blessed." She is blessed indeed, and she has blessed us with more than words can convey.

Eva is survived by her children, Edward (Yvonne), Donald, Sharon, Michael (Pat), Ralph, Connie and Anna (Barry), 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the special people at Parkview Nursing Home who ministered to Mom’s body, heart and soul for the past three years. She held a special place in her heart for the ones that personally took care of her as she suffered through Alzheimer’s and other challenges.

Family and friends are invited to a Viewing at Reach Church, 2880 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE 19701, on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

Gifts in Eva’s honor may be made to A Door of Hope Pregnancy Care Center, 3407 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19805 or to Friendship House of Wilmington, P.O. Box 1517 Wilmington, DE 19899.
