Barbara C. Mitchell, age 75, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Born in Mullens, WV, Barbara was the daughter of the late Salvatore Rampolla and Carole (Clay) Ward. She was a graduate of Groves High School and was currently attending University of Delaware.
Barbara was a longtime member of Newark United Methodist Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years and where her five sons were baptized and confirmed as well as three grandsons who also became Eagle Scouts at the church. Barbara served as a Den Leader and Committee Member of Pack 255 and Troop 255 and often accompanied the boys to monthly camping trips and summer camp.
Barbara loved to spend time with her family more than anything, usually feeding them, and is famous for her homemade bread and potato salad.
She enjoyed visiting the beach and taking trips. Barbara loved boats and fishing. She was well known for reaching out to people in the community in need to lend a helping hand. She was a die-hard Star Wars fan. Barbara was retired from AutoPort at the Wilmington Port Authority.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Claude K Mitchell Sr., sons Claude Jr., Michael, Martin, Daniel, and Shawn; five grandsons Ryan, Christopher, Benjamin, Claude 3, and Morgan; sister Elizabeth (Ward) Gellens, daughter-in-law Jacqualynn as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. She is predeceased by her grandmother Augusta Clay, her Aunt Eva Bradbury, and her brothers, Steve Osbourne and Tony Ward.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday September 20, 2019 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702 where friends may call from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will follow the service in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
