Dorothy E. Vanieken

Dorothy Elizabeth Vanieken, age 88, of Newark, DE passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones at Churchman Village.

She graduated from Richland High School. Dorothy was an active member of Wilmington Church of the Brethren for over 50 years. During her time at the Church she filled many roles with WCOB including Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and served as a church Deacon for 38 years.

As a season ticket holder for over 20 years, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family going to Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball games. Dorothy also served as a Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth of 65 years, her four daughters Mary Ann Bullock (Scott) of Newark, Naomi Piatek (Tom) of Harleysville, PA, Phyllis Vanieken-Ryals (Jim) of Houston, DE, and Yvonne Morgan (Jack) of New Castle, DE. Along with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11 am at the Wilmington Church of the Brethren, 27 Belmont Ave., Wilmington, DE 19804. The visitation hour will begin at 10 am at the church.
