H. Daniel McCoy Jr. (Big Dan McCoy)

H. Daniel McCoy, age 85, born in Philadelphia, PA, passed peacefully at home in Bear, DE, on January 3, 2019 as he was surrounded by his loving children. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Katherine McCoy. Mary was the love of his life and he has missed her dearly since her passing in 2016. Dan is also predeceased by his parents, H. Daniel McCoy Sr. and Francis Anastasia Farabelli McCoy.

He is survived by his six children, Stephanie J. Chatman, Nadene K. Reuling, Monica R. Blankenship (Clayton), Michelle A. Torbert-Muth (Bob), Michael A. McCoy and Shaun D. McCoy (Heather) and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dan was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Navy Seabee and was attached to the ACB#2. He was also a member of the United States Air Force serving as an Air Man Third Class. Prior to his service in the Navy and Air Force, he was a member of the National Guard, 104th Mechanized Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. Upon his honorable discharges from each branch of Military, he returned home to Pennsylvania where he met and married the love of his life, Mary K. Stimeling.

Dan spent over 50 years in the automobile business. He is best known as “Big Dan” from his 23 years of service at Kirkwood Motors on Kirkwood Highway as General Manager.

Dan was an avid Eagles fan, private pilot and boat enthusiast. He enjoyed family vacations, weekend getaways on his boat and especially Sunday dinners with his family. Dan was adored by all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the BEESON FUNERAL HOME, 2053 Pulaski Hwy., Newark, DE 19702. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 am. A committal service will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
