John Haznewski Obituary

John (Jack) Richard Hazewski passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018. He was a longtime resident of the Town of Bellefonte, Wilmington, DE.

John was born on June 5, 1937 in the Hedgeville area of Wilmington, DE to the late John Adam and Rose Irene Hazewski.

Jack attended St. Hedwig’s Parochial School and graduated from Salesianum High School (’55). Following secondary schooling at Mount Saint Mary’s and Goldey Beacom Colleges he began a lengthy and successful career in the mortgage banking industry, growing his employers’ businesses and achieving Vice President status. He also helped to start up several other mortgage banking businesses in Delaware and New Jersey. Jack then made a career change and worked in retail sales for Glidden-ICI Paints in the Philadelphia Pike/Penny Hill Branch. He retired from ICI after several years due to health reasons.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Flounder fishing was his passion and he took every opportunity to set out in pursuit of those "big doormats". During solo trips and family vacations in Lewes, DE, he enjoyed fishing into his later years, until his sea legs gave out. He enjoyed all sports on T.V., his favorites being Duke basketball, Notre Dame football, and the Phillies.

Jack’s greatest accomplishment is the family that he raised with his wife of 54 years, Cassandra (Sandy). He is survived by his wife Sandy, brother Joe (Bonnie), sister Marge Hayman, sister-in-law Sister Diana Cerchio, SSJ. He is also survived by seven children, John (Judy), Matt (Fran), Danny, Laura Curley (Tom), Judy Champion (Dave), Kate, and Mary Jo Kleitz (Mike), and fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is very much loved and will be dearly missed by all.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Brandywine Valley Funeral Care/Beeson Chapel, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. The Visitation will be held at 10:00AM, followed by prayer service at 11:00AM and Interment immediately following at Cathedral Cemetery.
