Ramona H. Stoops Funk Obituary

Ramona H. Stoops Funk departed this life peacefully on August 20, 2018 at the Country House, where she resided for many years.

Ramona was born in 1920. She grew up in an extended family that spent a great deal of time together. There are many photos of laughing and loving family gatherings. Ramona was the eldest of three children. Her mother Blanche passed in 1979. Her brother Thomas predeceased her, and is survived by five children. Her sister Elaine also predeceased her, and is survived by son Stephen, whose brother Skip passed in 2017. Ramona loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews.

Ramona married Alfred Stoops in 1942. Alf served in the Army in WWII, and then worked at Dow Chemical. They had twin daughters, Michele and Meredith. Ramona and Alf loved each of their dogs, and the dog usually traveled with them. Ramona and Alf enjoyed many years of vacationing at Cape May Point, NJ, where Alf's brother Francis Stoops built a house. Francis was an integral part of the family. Alf passed in 1979, and Francis and his lovely wife Margaret also predeceased Ramona.

Ramona had a lovely singing voice and was a member of church choirs and a local chorale. She loved to cook and could prepare a meal or a dessert in a snap. She did the crossword puzzle and cryptogram every day. She loved to read and to garden. She nearly always had a project that involved knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, or doing crewel or bead work. She made crafts for and worked at the Trinity Presbyterian Church Bazaar. She was in the Rebecca Circle and treasured her church friends. She was a member of the African Violet Society for many years and worked endlessly to propagate and develop plants to show. She was in charge of the activity room at Beechwood School for many years. She had boundless energy and enthusiasm and loved children.

Ramona married Harry Funk in 1988. Ramona and Harry found great joy in dancing. Harry had for years been involved in flying, and Ramona joined him in flight at times, snapping photos from the airplane. They traveled and enjoyed time with their families and friends. Theirs was a full, happy and active life. Ramona and Harry shared a history of being involved with the church, and they attended services on an alternating basis at Trinity Presbyterian Church and Trinity Episcopal Church.

Ramona's beloved daughter Michele passed in 2016.

Ramona is survived by her husband Harry Funk; her daughter Meredith Jones; her grandson Chris Jones and his wife Kate; her granddaughter Megan Connell and her husband Ryan; and six great grandchildren.
