Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert Bruce Brimmer

November 8, 2017

Robert Bruce Brimmer, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was a much loved and respected member of his family who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He wasn’t much of a talker, his wife of 28 or 33 years depending on which one you asked, did the majority of the talking—and he preferred it that way. There isn’t anything he would not do for any of them from lawn mower to vehicle repairs, deck building or hauling with the trusted Tahoe and trailer.

Bob was a skilled mechanic starting with cars, trucks, earth moving equipment, boats and ultimately his passion, as lead tech these last 7 years for 1st Vehicle Services. His responsibility as a sub-contractor for the city of Wilmington was for their fleet of fire engines and supporting apparatus. This career came relatively late in life and while only there 7 years, he quickly gained the respect of his co-workers and the end users of the fire equipment he tried to keep up and running. There wasn’t a piece of equipment though, be it a lawn mower, trash truck, school bus, snow removal equipment, etc that he did not work on as “Go ask Bob” was commonly heard or “Bob to fuel island” paged over and over on the intercom. While all those interruptions some days could get to him, he truly loved that people felt confident in his skills to be tapped for answers. For Bob, this respect came late in life but he came to cherish it.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Donald  and Ethel, and brother Allen Brimmer.

Bob is survived by his wife Janice, his children Robert B., Jr. and girlfriend KayLeigh, Christine McCullough and her husband Chris, grandchildren Melissa, Megan, Chelsea, Chloe, Nate, and Billy, great grandchildren Nate, Jr. and Riley. He is also survived by his step children Kelly Meekins and husband Richard , Barbara Peoples, his sister-in-law Maizelle, his sisters Patti FitzGerald, husband Brian, Donna Thewes, husband Michael, nieces Kelly, Kathleen, Maggie, Molly, Joanna, Samantha, Dawn, and Nicole, nephews Anthony and Charles and assorted great nephews and nieces.

The Visitation will be from 2 PM to 4 PM  with the Memorial Service at 3 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19720.
