William Fox Obituary

William (“Bill”) Fox, age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018 surrounded by loving family and friends.

Bill worked as a chemical operator at DuPont Chambers Works for over 30 years. He also proudly served in the Army National Guard and United States Army Reserve for 35 years, including several years with the 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and, later, with the 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), before retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was also a member of St. Margaret’s of Scotland Catholic Church.

A devout family man, Bill was always ready to assist family and friends, whether it was running errands, house sitting, shoveling snow, or walking the dogs.  One of his greatest joys in life was being a Grandpa to his 3 grandchildren and spoiling them in any way he could. He was the ultimate Eagles, Phillies, and Blue Hens football fan and was especially happy to see the World Series and Super Bowl wins!  His hobbies included reading the daily newspaper, history, collecting Santa figurines, and most recently, playing bingo.

Bill is survived by his daughter Donna Bonk (Dave Hurley) of Newark, DE; his son, Lt. Col. (USA, Retired) David Fox (Susan) of Stafford, VA; his three grandchildren, Ashley Bonk (Kyle Crabbs) of Middletown, DE, and Grady Fox and Ellie Fox of Stafford, VA; his sisters, Jane Lyons (Bob) of Ocean View, DE and Linda Manuel (Larry) of Bear, DE; his dear friends and neighbors, George Latta, Paul and Karen Young and Betty Caldwell; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Fox (Stradley); his father, Francis Fox; his mother, Florence Fox (Fowler); his brothers, Donald Fox (Nancy) and Jay Fox; and his sisters, Barbara Saxe (Will) and Debbie Fox.

The family would like to extend a very gracious thank you to the staff at the Community Living Center at Veterans Hospital in Wilmington for all the care they provided him over the past few years.

A viewing will be held beginning at 8:45 am and Mass at 9:45 am on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at St. Margaret’s of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702.  A committal service will follow at 11:00 am at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill’s memory to The Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131; Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
