William Saunders Obituary

Bill passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2019, from cancer complications surrounded by his loving family. William James Saunders (Jr.) was born in Brooklyn, New York to William James Saunders and Dorothy Virginia Saunders. As a teenager, his family moved to New Jersey where he graduated high school then joined the Navy. After serving in the Navy as a radio engineer, he went on to a career in electronics, sales, and management first in New Jersey, then in Florida. While residing in Florida, he also ran his own real estate business as well as a plant and nursery business. As an experienced marketing manager, he was recruited to a fast-moving technology company in Massachusetts, later being transferred to their Delaware office. After several years, he chose to take an early retirement package and start his own computer software company, which was successful for nearly a decade. Never one to sit still, Bill continued to work in sales and poured much time and effort into his hobbies in the garden, woodworking, reading, and writing. He wrote thirteen books where he shared his many talents, insights, and collections of loving poetry.

Bill was quick-as-a-whip, sharp-as-a-tack, and could fill any room with laughter with his dry wit and countless jokes. All those who knew Bill can attest to his irresistible charm and his steadfast devotion to his wife and children. Bill always had a song in his heart and was able to find optimism in every situation through life, saying, “always walk on the sunny side of the street”. He was a lover of sunshine-y days, Budweiser, sandy Florida beaches, perfectly cut grass, hot dogs on the grill, dancing in the garage, Willie Nelson, impeccably organized garage, “making sawdust”, and being a patriotic American.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Sonia Diane Saunders, and their daughters, Nicole Diane, Lisa Ann, and Jennifer Jeanne. Bill is also survived by his two sons William James Saunders III and Edward Thomas Saunders, from previous marriage. Grandchildren: William James Saunders IV, Doug Saunders, Elisha Smith, Shelby Saunders, Courtney Saunders, and Logan Saunders. Great grandchildren: William James Saunders V and Evan Tyler Smith.
