Alice J. Saxton, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 19, 2025. A native Delawarean, Alice was born in Harrington in 1932. She was the daughter of Norman Marshall and Beulah (Parvis) Marshall.
Alice was a long-time parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. She worked at Lovely Lady Apparel Shop in Wilmington for 30 years. As a young woman, Alice was an accomplished roller skater, competing in many skating competitions at the old Merryland Roller Rink in Glasgow, Delaware.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband William J. Saxton of 71 years and her grandson Michael Snitch. She is survived by brother- in- law: Thomas Saxton (Pat) of Wilmington; sister –in- law: Joanne Saxton of Wilmington; children: Jeannette Smith (William) of Bear, Janice Matarese (Paul) of Middletown, Ann Snitch (Len) of Madison Alabama, and Joseph Saxton (Marie) of Felton; grandchildren: Christopher Smith (Joanne) of Orlando, Florida, Kim Gonzon (Anthony) of Middletown, Lisa Braun (Eric) of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Michelle Hall (Larry) of Townsend, Deborah Mikus (John) of Newark, Stephanie Saxton (Chris) of Bear, and Anthony Saxton (Alicia) of Smyrna; great grandchildren: Matthew, Justin, Ryan, Kayla, TJ, Hailey, Jason, Nathan, Rhyan, Liliana, Madeleine, Asher and Ava.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 at Beeson Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Delaware City, Delaware following the service.
