Andrew "Pat" DeBoda Obituary

Andrew (Pat) DeBoda, 95, of Bear previously lived in Millsboro passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, January 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  Pat was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Theresa (Connell) and Ambrosio DeBoda.  Also predeceased by his brothers Ben, Ambrose and sister Dorothy Mischler.

Pat lived in New York, California,  Michigan and settled in Delaware as his father served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School.  He served his country in the United States Navy.  Pat retired from General Motors after 36 years.  He was the Financial Secretary for the UAW Retiree Chapter.  He was the Treasurer of the Woodcarvers of Delaware, where he learned to carve many birds.

Pat played semi-pro football for Conrad Alumni and he participated in the Senior Olympics playing volleyball at the Fraim Center for Active Adults.

He enjoyed participating in the many PTA plays at H. J. Krebs School and at the American Legion Post 28 with a group of fellow veterans.

Pat and Ruth moved to Whitehouse Beach and spent over 40 years there enjoying boating, fishing, clamming (where by luck, he found a 10mm pearl) and crabbing with family and the many friendships they made over the years.

They built a home at Highview on the Indian River Bay and enjoyed 15 years of happiness and eventually returned back to northern Delaware to be closer to their family.

He loved playing cards and board games with his grandchildren.  Traveling to Portland to watch his granddaughter play softball.  He loved yard work and barbecuing.

Pat was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and he loved being with his family.  Pat was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 28.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years: Ruth Ann (Clifton) DeBoda; his sons:  Michael (Margaret) of Bear; Scott (Patricia) of Newark; his daughter: Leslie (Edward) Lally of Wilmington;  grandchildren: Allison Smith, Patrick DeBoda, Zachary DeBoda, Michael DeBoda, Kelsey Palandrani and Kaitlyn Lally; great grandchildren: Braylond Smith, Addison Smith, Trip DeBoda, Scarlett DeBoda, Destiny DeBoda, Dominic DeBoda, Sebastian DeBoda, Luca Palandrani, Rowan Palandrani and Lena Palandrani.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701
