Barbara A. Dickinson Obituary

Barbara A. Dickinson, age 81, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022 at home, after a long, courageous battle with cancer and dementia.

She was born in Wilmington, DE to Howard and Lillian (Kirkley) Matthews.  Barbara worked most of her life in childcare, having her own home daycare for almost 15 years.  This was her passion and joy.  She loved the kids like her own grandchildren.

Barbara and Jimmy ‘G’ were happily married for 55 years until his passing in 2020.  They enjoyed many summers at their beach house in Lewes.  She loved walking at the mall, where she made many friends and going to Delaware Park to play the slots.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the warm and caring professionals at Delaware Hospice who cared for Barb for the past 5 months.  Specifically to both Gloria and Brianna who took great care of her. Mom was unbelievably strong and fought hard until the end.

In addition to her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Kracyla; brother, William Matthews; and stepson, William Dickinson.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Graves; daughter, Cheryl (David) Founds; grandchildren, Valerie and Keith (Olivia) Dickinson and Shane (Jessica) and Lindsay Founds; great grandchildren, Trey Dickinson and Layla Founds.
