Betty Brinton Bowers, age 77, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025. Born in May 1947, in Upland, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Brinton Sr. and Helen L. Page.
Betty was a 1965 graduate of John Dickinson High School. On December 18, 1965, she married her beloved husband, Robert W. Bowers Sr., who predeceased her, and they shared 59 years of marriage. She dedicated 26 years of her career to Happy Harry’s drug stores as an administrative assistant to the president and later as a clerk at Walgreens. Betty’s commitment to service extended to her volunteer work at the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home, where she brought comfort and care to residents for many years.
A devoted family woman, Betty cherished time spent with her children, Robert W. Bowers Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Bryan C. Bowers and his wife, Kate, of Smyrna, Delaware. She adored her granddaughters, Brittany L. Bowers of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Brenna C. and Meghan I. Bowers of Smyrna, Delaware, often indulging them with shopping trips. Betty also treasured her outings with her dearest friend, Janet Dushanko of Smyrna, Delaware.
Betty found joy in reading, solving Sudoku and other puzzles, and nurturing her family’s bonds. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jay R. Brinton and Joseph B. Brinton Jr., and is survived by her brother, William P. Brinton of Wilmington, Delaware.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2053 at 11:00 am at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Rd, Newark, DE 19711, in Betty’s honor.
