Cheryl Wilkinson Obituary

Cheryl D. Wilkinson  (Big Mama)

Cheryl D. Wilkinson (Weller), 75, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 8, 2022. Cheryl was born in Hancock, Maryland, the daughter of Mae L. Johnson  and William H. Weller, Jr.

Following her graduation from Hancock High School, Cheryl left her mountain home for the first time enlisting in the United States Army, serving in the 198th Signal Battalion and joining WACS. She then finished her military career as an E-6. While serving her country, Cheryl met her one true love and only husband, Myron Clifford Wilkinson, now deceased, on base at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Just like a bad country song, he, the street-smart kid from New York, she, the good girl from the mountains, they were blessed with their son, Tony. Their relationship ended and Cheryl moved on becoming head supply sergeant in the Army National Guard, an extremely high and rare position for a woman in the military era. She was the recipient of 2 medals; the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. She worked for Hercules and retired after 35 years. Additionally, Cheryl was also employed by Delaware Trust, retiring after 25 years. Being the dedicated hard-working woman she was retirement lasted just 2 years as Cheryl obtained a position with DuPont Chestnut branch where she met, instantly becoming best friends with and finally retiring with Sarah Keeney Malivuk. Sarah and her family played an extremely important part of Cheryl's life, providing her a second chance at having a loving family, holding them very dear to her heart.

Cheryl was hard but fair, loving Tony the only way she knew. She was an extremely strong, single mom, never missing a beat to provide for him. He is eternally grateful. She instilled honesty and loyalty which can be a double-edged sword but made him who he is today.

One of her greatest passions was military veteran’s reform. She also enjoyed her grand-pup, Dakota, watching black and white westerns and doing her word search puzzles.

In addition to Tony, her son and only living relative, Cheryl was loved and will be missed by many.
