Diane M. Shipengrover Obituary

Diane M. (Warrington) Shipengrover, 76, of Newark, Delaware, peacefully passed on Saturday January 2, 2021, to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Donald (Don) R. Shipengrover, who predeceased her.

Diane was born on June 4, 1944 in Wilmington, Delaware to M. Madeline and Paul A. Warrington.  After graduating from Wilmington High School, she attended Goldey-Beacom College where she earned her General Secretarial Certificate and obtained employment as a legal secretary with the law firm of Richards, Layton, and Finger in Wilmington.  After marrying Don, Diane chose to resign her position in order to raise their three children.  Throughout the years, Diane also worked as a medical secretary and as a bookkeeper in partnership with her husband.

In addition to her beloved husband, Diane was predeceased by her parents and by her sister-in-law, Bonnie (Shipengrover) Domion, and Bonnie’s husband, Phil Domion, Jr.

She is survived by her three children; Terri S. Jarrell and her husband, David, Karen Warrington and her husband, Rich, and Dan Shipengrover and his wife, Christine; her 7 grandsons, Matt, Brian, Austin, Hunter, Aidan, Riley and Avery; and her granddaughter, Logan.  She is also survived by her sister, Gerry Zuka, and her husband, Ron, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Diane took great pride in her children’s achievements, not the least of which was watching them establish their own homes with their families.  Taking advantage of this well-deserved freedom, she and Don enjoyed vacationing on cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico as well as road tripping.  Favorite road trip destinations included Tennessee (especially Graceland, a must for every Elvis fan like her) and repeated trips to Atlantic City as well as other places within a day or two’s drive.  Closer to home, they played at Delaware Park many times and frequently dined out.  Recently, Diane enjoyed playing trivia and other games with her grandchildren and competing with friends online.

Visitation for Diane will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 6pm – 7pm at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE  19702.  A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following the visitation.  COVID protocols will be in place for the visitation and Mass; face masks and social distancing will be required.

Interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (http://www.umdf.org) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (http://www.pancan.org), both of which touched Diane’s family.
