Elizabeth Ann Lunning was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1938 and lived there until 1958, when she came to the United States as a Nun with St. Luke’s Convent in Hohokus, NJ. She became a naturalized citizen in 1965. Ann studied at Caldwell College and Setan Hall University where she earned bachelor’s degrees in teaching and nursing. At first, she taught math and science in Fords, NJ. Then, after earning her nursing degree, she worked at Holy Name Hospital until she left the convent in 1975. She moved to Marlton, NJ and began nursing at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ and later at Elmer Hospital in Elmer, NJ. Ann and her future husband, James, met on November 4, 1981 and they remained together until her passing on January 13, 2025 at the age of 85.
Ann loved doing crafts, especially making personalized greeting cards. She would frequently have card making parties with her close friends. Ann was also an avid reader. Whenever she woke in the middle of the night and could not get back to sleep, she would read for hours.
Ann and James were married on June 18, 1982 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. In 1996 they moved to Seaford, DE and she became a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
Ann is survived by her loving husband: James Lunning; sister: Thelma Barry (Denis); three stepdaughters: Lynne, Karen, and Sandy; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews include Maeve, Denise (Bryan), Shane (Michelle), and her cousin Veronica (Bill). Her family in Ireland include: Mariea, Peter, Jr., Elaine, Niamh, and Ciara along with cousins: Paddy, Marion, Liam, and Patricia.
Ann loved her family and was loved and will be greatly missed by all.
