Elwan "Carl" Wynn Obituary

Elwan (Carl) Wynn, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.  He was born in 1947, the son of Hershel and Fay Wynn.  In 1967, he joined the Marine Corps and volunteered to serve in Vietnam where he was gravely wounded, earning two Purple Hearts.  After recovering, he met his wife, Nita, while visiting family in Michigan, and they were married in 1978. Together, they raised two sons and a daughter in Newark, Delaware.

Carl was very proud of his children, Dave (Jenn), Dan (Lynsey), and Amy (Mike Krzyzanowski), and he dearly loved his three grandchildren, Alex, Abby, and Gigi. He loved being outside with them under his favorite tree in the yard, soaking in nature and enjoying the kids’ seemingly boundless energy. Oftentimes, he’d bring out his guitar and banjo and entertain the family with his favorite songs, usually something by Jimmy Rodgers, Roy Orbison, or Hank Williams.

Carl was an amazing storyteller and knew how to deliver a solid punch line. He loved to make people laugh and knew how to brighten a room. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Carl is also survived by his mother, Fay Wynn of Port Deposit, Md and two sisters, Angela (Roland) Coon of Dover, DE and Norma (Neil) Tilton of Aberdeen, MD, along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702 on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 11:30am until 12:30pm, where a funeral service will begin at 12:30pm.  A private committal service will be held in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
