Gail Harmon Obituary

Gail Ann (Ocheltree) Harmon, age 80, went peacefully home to the Lord on January 5, 2020 at The Kutz Home in Bellfonte, Delaware. Gail was born on August 15, 1939 to her parents, Willard E. and Lillian W. Ocheltree, in Wilmington, Delaware.

She was raised as a child in St. Georges on the family farm and recounted many memories of picking vegetables and spending time with her sister Nancy. Gail graduated with a degree from Goldey Beacom College before marrying Henry Papinuee Harmon Jr. in the summer of ’58. Together they enjoyed drag racing, fishing and a love of the beach.

Gail was a compassionate, caring, kind-hearted, and determined woman with an infectious laugh, and sometimes sassy disposition. She had a special gift for engaging in conversations, and sharing a genuine smile and hug with everyone she met. Gail loved taking care of her family. She particularly enjoyed, in her retirement years, spending time with her 3 grandchildren; Evan, Jonas and Tyler.

Gail was an avid animal lover and found great enjoyment in playing ragtime and swing music on her piano. She also enjoyed gardening, camping, and bible study. Gail found peace and relaxation with family, friends, and having her toes in the sand at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Beginning in the early 1960’s, and for over 30 years, Gail successfully held various management roles at the Du Pont Company in Wilmington while raising 2 children. Gail developed a passion for golfing and was a weekend regular at the DuPont Country Club. She was active in her community and served as the president of her local civic association.

Gail is survived by her son, Ronald W. (Kay) Harmon, Cynthia H. Kipp; her sister Nancy O. (Gary) Walton, of Gilbert Arizona; 3 grandchildren, Tyler M. (Kelsey) Harmon, Evan C. Kipp, and Jonas H. Kipp; as well as 2 beloved nieces, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Gail was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry Papineeu Harmon Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware, and her parents Willard E. and Lillian W. Ocheltree.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 13 at the Brandywine Valley Funeral Home, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. All are welcome to visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Gail’s Life. Internment will be held at the Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 where Gail will go to her final resting place alongside her husband, Henry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Delaware Humane Association, to continue her love and support of animals, located at 701 A Street, Wilmington DE 19801.
