George Kornack Obituary

On March 2, 2021, George Thomas Kornack, age 80 of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully with his family by his side.  He was the loving husband of Joanne and proud father of Andrew.

George was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and educated in the Wilmington schools.  He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School, class of 1959.  While at P.S., he participated in many sports including varsity football.  In twelfth grade, he was co-captain of the team and was chosen to play in the 1959 All Star Game.

After high school, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  He spent four years as a radar man on two destroyers; first was the Lowry and the second was the Joseph P. Kennedy.

In 1965, George went to work for Diamond State Telephone Company.  He started installing telephones and worked his way through PBX and Systems,  tech dedicated to local companies.  He retired after 27 years and opened his own contracting company specializing in additions and renovations.  He finally retired after 22 years in 2014.

George was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant for 50 years where he served two terms as a trustee.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter W. Sr. and Mary H. Kornack, brother Jimmy and sister Doris.  Besides his wife, Joanne and son Andrew, he is survived by his brother Peter W. Jr. (Wilma) as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a wonderful group of friends.

Funeral services will be private with a committal service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s name to Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Rd., Wilm, DE 19809 or Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Research Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
