Gerald Arthur Spencer Williams, Sr., age 79, passed away on August 14, 2026. He was born in 1946 to the late Judson B Williams, Jr. and Bessie H. Williams at Douglass Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was the second child born to this union. Gerald was named after a well-known Dermatologist, Dr. Gerald Arthur Spencer.

Gerald was educated in the Philadelphia School System. He left Philadelphia to further his studies at Cardoza High School, in Washington DC. Gerald completed a year at Cardoza, before transferring to Horace Mann, a highly selective, private coeducational college-preparatory day school in New York. Following his graduation from Horace Mann, he won a scholarship to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Judson, Gerald, Helen Ruth and their mom were members of St Barnabas Episcopal Church of Germantown. Gerald’s love was football, and he was a lifelong Philadelphia EAGLES fan.  Gerald was the quarterback for the Liberty Bells.

One time his mom had precooked some bacon to season some vegetables, she left the kitchen briefly. When she returned, she called all 3 of us to interrogate the “guilty party.” She spoke about getting TRICHINOSIS, from under cooked pork. She spelled the word very slowly and left the kitchen. When dinner was ready, she called us to the dinner table. Gerald came in sniffling, when Mom asked him why he was crying he commented: I didn’t eat the bacon; I don’t want to die.

In 1997, Gerald met Barbara Miles in Philadelphia. In September of 1998 they married and they shared 28 wonderful years together.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Judson B Williams Jr and Bessie H Williams.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife: Barbara; his elder brother: Judson Wiliams III of Maryland; his sister: Helen Ruth Thomas of Millville, NJ; his sons: Gerald JR (Shana) of Rockwall, Tx and Brian (Celestine) of Ocala, FL; his two grandsons: Gerald III (aka Tre) and Sean; his stepson: Kevin Miles (Rachel) of California; his stepdaughter: Karen Miles of Delaware; a host of step grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: George Young (Yvonne) of Philadelphia and Lewis Edwards (Joan) of Georgia; five nieces; one nephew; and a host of great nieces, nephews, friends, and associates - many from Urban Bankers Association.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
