Glovene E. Gommer Obituary

Glovene Eleanora (Steward) Gommer, age 92, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on December 26, 2018.

Glovene was born in Berwick, PA. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Addalean  (Snyder)  Steward. She worked for many years at Murray’s Men’s Clothing Store and Jamesway Department Store as a sales associate before retiring to Millsboro, DE.  She loved her audio books, country music, bingo, fishing and spending time with her family. 

Glovene recently resided with her son, Les and daughter in law, Terry in Wilmington. She previously lived with her daughter, Addie and son in law, Bill in Smyrna, who all cared for her.

Glovene was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leslie J. Gommer, Sr. and daughter, Addie Holley.  She is survived by her two sons, Leslie J. Gommer, Jr. and his wife, Terry and Barry L. Gommer and  his wife, Eleanor; son-in-law, Bill Holley; sister, Delphine “Sis” Evans and brother, James Steward, both of PA; grandchildren: Barry, Crystal, Jennie, Bobby, Billy, Kevin, Timmy;  22 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at Christiana ER and the 6E unit, who took great care of her.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:30am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702, where friends may visit with the family from 10:30am to 11:30am.  Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
