Grace “Betty” (Brown) Hurst passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at the age of 99.
Grace was born in Claymont, Delaware on May 1, 1921 to the late Eber Brown and Grace Armer Brown. A graduate of P.S. du Pont, she raised two daughters and worked in retail sales for 30 years until retiring from Macy’s in 1991. She belonged to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wilmington for more than 50 years.
Grace will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She touched everyone she met with her generosity, elegance, and warm personality. She loved puzzles, ice hockey, football, and travel, especially visiting her siblings around the country. In retirement, Grace and her late husband were a constant presence in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating countless memories during visits to parks and museums, lunches at Hollywood Grill, and holiday gatherings.
Grace is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Frey and Bonnie Redmile, three grandchildren, Terri Falin, Kristine Moye (Michael), and Russell Frederick, and five great-grandchildren, Scott Falin, Taylor Brooks (Michael), Ryan Moye (Sara), Nicholas Moye (Elizabeth), and Russell Frederick, Jr. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Richard H. Hurst, and her four siblings, Dorothy, Marie Elva, Carl and Wilmer Brown.
A private service and committal will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
