Hazel Woodley, an avid reader, a heart listener and a selfless individual died in Newark, Delaware, on April 6, 2025. She was 76 years old.
Ida Garnett (formerly Watson) and Clyde Watson gave birth to Hazel Woodley on February 17, 1949, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She lived in both Siparia and Port-of-Spain as a child, and Venezuela in her early 20s. Hazel met Herman as a teenager. The couple married on June 10, 1973. In 1975, Hazel began working in a government position as a postal service clerk.
Hazel and Herman raised their seven children, her sister and her nieces in Arima, Trinidad before migrating to the United States. She lived in Philadelphia, PA., and Elkins Park, PA. for over 30 years. In 2011, Hazel retired from her position as an administrative clerk at Prudential Financials and moved to Newark soon after. After retirement, Hazel enjoyed traveling to Trinidad, cruising with her Bajan family and visiting her grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies were reading, crocheting, gardening, knitting and completing word puzzles.
Hazel was preceded in death by her mother: Ida Garnett (stepfather Lee Garnett), her father: Clyde Watson; and her sisters: Cheryl Watson and Marva Weal.
She is survived by her husband: Herman; her children: Beverly, Crystal, Kevaugh, Reesa, Colin, Anisha, and Jevaughn; her son-in-law: Marc; her grandchildren: Nasir, Kayla, Xzavier, Hailey, Mika’eel, Marc Daniel, Joshua, Maniya, and Naila; her great-grandchildren: Brooklynn, Braelynn, and Brielle; her siblings: Allen, Junior, Anita, Paul, Lester, Tony and Petal; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 9-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am at Beeson Funeral Home.
