It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Herta S.Patrick on August 8, 2026, in the comfort of her home.  Born on May 27, 1932, in Ontario, Canada, Herta was the cherished daughter of Martin and Elizabeth May, Romanian immigrants.  Her journey through life was marked by compassion, resilience, and a boundless love for those around her.

Herta was a devoted wife, having met the love of her life, Pat, in a serendipitous encounter on a San Francisco stairway. Their love story unfolded with a marriage that took them to Delaware, where they raised their two sons. Pat and Herta shared a beautiful partnership, enriched by over fifty summers spent at her brother Eddie's and sister-in-law June's cottage located at Georgian Bay in Ontario Canada.   They enjoyed the sun, fishing, beer and potato chips.  'BettyHerta' will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews.  Pat and Herta's 'golden years' were filled with travel and adventure, exploring the world and creating cherished memories.

A graduate of Banford Nursing School, Ontario Canada in 1953. Herta followed the American dream while dedicating her life to the service of others. Her career as a Registered Nurse was both diverse and fulfilling starting in NYC, California, then most of her career in Delaware. Spanning roles with the Blood Bank, Mental Health, CDC, Private Duty, and as a beloved School Nurse, which was her favorite. Her compassionate care and dedication left a lasting impact on all she served.

Herta was a devout Christian, deeply involved in her community at Faith Lutheran Church in Bear, Delaware. Her faith and commitment were evident in her roles from food bank volunteer to treasurer, active member of the Priscilla Circle, and a trusted assistant to Pastor Thress. Her unwavering faith and warm smile uplifted everyone she met, even in challenging times.

Her passions extended beyond her professional life. Herta found such joy in caring for her beloved dogs.  An avid gardener, her landscapes flourished with vibrant flowers, reflecting her zest for life. She also found fulfillment in creating quilts, which she generously donated to families at Dover Air Force Base, embodying her spirit of giving and community support. 

Herta was predeceased by her beloved husband Pat, her parents Martin and Elizabeth May, her sister Elizabeth and brother-in-law Mike Tinnes, her brothers Edward and wife June May, and Martin, her daughter-in-law Kim Patrick, and her granddaughter Marlena.

She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Patrick Jr. (Debbie) and Tracey R. Patrick (Lisa), her grandsons Jesse Patrick (Morgan), Tomas Patrick III, and Michael Brown, her treasured great-grandchildren, Emmie and Max.

A service to honor Herta's remarkable life will be held on August 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 2265 Red Lion Rd, Bear, DE. Family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating her life and legacy. For those unable to attend in person, a private live stream link is available upon request to the family.
