Jacqueline Hathaway Obituary

Jacqueline was born in Wilkes Barre, PA in 1929, the second daughter of Kathryn Dorothy Kerschner Bush and Ralph Raymond Bush. She grew up in Havertown, PA, attending the Manoa School, and graduated from Haverford Township High School in 1947. She graduated cum laude from Penn State University in 1951. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a lifelong member of PSU Alumni Association. She taught at Coatsville Junior High School from 1951-1952. 

She was married in 1952 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Havertown, PA, lived in Philadelphia, and worked at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital while her husband finished school. She moved to Wilmington, DE in June of 1953 where she worked for the DuPont Company, Textile Division until her first child was born.

After raising three children, she substituted in Mount Pleasant School District for many years. She worked in the New Castle County School District teaching home economics and later at Ursuline Academy teaching computer science for twenty years. She enjoyed family, bridge, hiking, world travel, and always looking for the next great adventure.

In her later years she resided at the Maris Grove Retirement Community in Glen Mills, PA participating in many diverse activities.

She is survived by son Glenn Hathaway (Janet) of Maryville, TN, daughter Lorraine (Lori) Goetzinger (James) of Baltimore, MD and son Clayton Hathaway (Rhonda) of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren Adrienne Harbarger (David), Ryan Hathaway, Rebecca Richardson (Eddie), Max Hathaway, and Ian Hathaway; and great-grandchildren Cash and Rex Harbarger, and Riley Richardson.  She will be missed by her family and her community.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Brandywine Valley Funeral Care-Beeson Chapel, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 from 10:00am until 11:00am, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00am.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, Mass 01061-0515 or St. Marks Lutheran Church, 501 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, DE 19809 or any foundation fighting macular degeneration can be made in Jackie’s honor.
