James “Jamie” David McVicker, of Bear, DE, passed away on April 12, 2026. Jamie was born in Bethesda, MD to Dr. and Mrs. Joseph A. McVicker. He lived in Poolesville, MD prior to the McVicker family relocating to Point Farm, Dagsboro, DE in 1971. Jamie was a student at St. Andrews School in Middletown, DE, graduated from Indian River high school and attended University of Delaware and Wilmington college. He was employed by the DuPont company for 19 years, later working for MBNA and Critical Path Services. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) and was a Baltimore Orioles season ticket holder for many years. Jamie and his wife enjoyed traveling, so he planned many destination vacations, cruises and long weekends with numerous surprises along the way. One of his favorite vacations was traveling to San Diego for Super Bowl XXII when the Redskins beat the Denver Broncos.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Shelley Jane McVicker Callahan.
He is survived by his devoted wife and soulmate of 43 years, Laurie Tonge McVicker; his sister Katherine "Kit" and her husband Dr. Jose Guzman of Milford, DE; in-laws: Gary and Linda Tonge of Georgetown, DE; Ken and Melisse Tonge of Landenberg, PA; Phil and Cheryl Tonge of Frisco, Texas; Ron and Michelle Tonge of Flemington, NJ; David Callahan of New Market, MD; 9 nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews, several cousins and his Aunt Mary Pat Everson. Jamie, being an animal lover, was "owned" by many pets throughout his life and leaves behind his feline friend Maggie.
Jamie was a gregarious, fun-loving, kind and generous man who loved to make others smile and laugh. In keeping with his wishes, he was a donor to the Gift of Life Foundation. There will be no memorial services at his request.
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 4
