James "Jim" Parker
James L. Parker, age 67, of Newark Delaware, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at home.
Jim worked for Christina School District in Newark, Delaware, for over 37 years as an A Maintenance Carpenter. Jim was a passionate leader of AFSCME Local 218 representing Maintenance and Custodial Union members for five Delaware school districts, serving as President of Local 218 for over ten years and Vice President of AFSCME Local 81 for five years.
Jim loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, go off shore fishing and travel to Costa Rica with friends and family. Jim enjoyed repairing antique furniture and making furniture and spending time with his family.
James was predeceased by his parents, Joe Champ and Gertrude Parker, sister-in-law Linda Parker and beloved sister Helen MacLaren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Holdren Parker, son Jason Parker, daughter Erin Parker and grandson Logan Milosky all in Delaware. He is also survived by his siblings, Arlene (Bob) Snyder of Pennsylvania, Joe (Stacey) Parker of Delaware, Tom Parker of Delaware, Patty McLamb of North Carolina, and many nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.
Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 10:00 am to noon at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, Delaware 19702 where a service celebrating his life will begin at noon. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
