Jamilia Chernikovich, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Jamilia was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was a bridal consultant in her early years and had a keen eye for fashion. She was always impeccably dressed. She loved shopping with her family, cooking and traveling. She especially loved the bus trips with her husband and their good friends. Jamila enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved children and taking care of her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Her husband of 57 years was the most important part of her life. Time spent with him was greatly cherished.
Jamillia is survived by her husband, Joe Chernikovich; sisters, Marion; Isabel; brothers, Tommy (Andrea); Malcom (Bonnie) and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Anthony George and nephew, Tony Prushinski.
A special thank you to Judy (Chernikovich) Clemens, Greg Clemens, Ray and Brenda Chernikovich for their loving care during their aunt’s final days. Their wonderful care enabled her last wish to stay at home during her end of life transition. Also, to Ted, Julie, Alex and TJ Prushinski and Joe and Debbie Yeninas for their vigilant care prior to her entering hospice.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 10AM-11AM at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM.
Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on April 19, 2023 at 11AM. The cemetery is located at 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
