Jane Louise Blake, 75, passed away December 31, 2023, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
Born in 1948 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Dorthy (Brandt) Stevens and Daniel Stevens (divorced).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jay H. Blake, sisters Mary Stevens and Marci Stevens-Mulloy and stepmother Lorraine Stevens.
Jane truly adored her loving husband Jay and cherished the time they had together. Family was the most important thing to Jane. Her heart was the biggest thing she had, and she did not hesitate to share that with those who knew her. Jane’s children Rebecca (Bussjager) Mills and Brian Bussjager were her pride and they brought so much joy and meaning to her life. Her grandchildren Kara, Chelsea, Janie, and Tommy brought her immeasurable happiness, as well as her great grandchildren Avery, Aiden, Asher, Kyro and Kona.
Jane’s surviving siblings include Cathy Carter (Anaheim, CA), Fred Stevens married to Jeannie (Fairfield, CT), Diane Szeligowski married to Ted (Newark, IL), Dori Sexton married to Jim (Hoffman Estates, IL). Jane also had half siblings Mary Fran Moscinski married to Tim (Glenview, IL), Danny Stevens (Minocqua, WI), and Mary Anne McAdams married to Ken (Weston, FL).
Jane loved the water and swimming was one of her favorite activities. She also treasured traveling with Jay in their motorhomes camping and visiting around the country. She truly enjoyed spending time with friends in person and talking on the phone. Jane also loved buying gifts and momentos, making tasty goodies, and sending cards always with handwritten words of encouragement to people letting them know how special they were to her. She was a talented writer and invested many hours penning her thoughts.
Jane attended Alvernia High School in Chicago, IL and Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. She worked at Agway in Dewitt, NY and then began her own cleaning business, PJ Services, servicing the Syracuse, NY area. After moving to Delaware, Jane continued her PJ Services business for many years. Eventually, she transitioned to working as a pharmacy aide, a Veterans Affairs donation coordinator, and lastly as a caregiver and nursing assistant in several settings. She really enjoyed helping to care for the elderly. This was always her life calling - to help and to serve others.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 3:30-4:30 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A memorial service will follow at 4:30 pm at Beeson Funeral Home. Interment will be private at Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date.
In memory of Jane, contributions may be made to Accent Hospice Care at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE, at https://giving.christianacare.org/ in lieu of flowers, as she would want to support the care for those in need, especially in their sunset time left.
Jane Blake’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
