In the loving arms of Tamie and his son Jerry, Jerry’s suffering ended and he went to the Lord on December 7, 2025 at the age of 64. Jerry fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and COPD for two years. He never complained and he fought to the very end. He was surrounded by his family and friends, which meant the world to him. He loved nothing more than his family and the Lord. His son, Jerry, was the greatest blessing of his life.
Jerry had many trades in his life. He was a merchant marine on Getty Oil ships, he owned JOT & Son Painting Company, he worked for R. C. Peoples Builders, and spent the last 29 years as maintenance supervisor at Caravel Academy, in Bear, DE
Jerry was born in 1961 in Elkton, MD, to Edward and Shirley Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward.
He is survived by his mother: Shirley Thompson (nee Schmittinger) Wallace; Tammy Hullinger Thompson; his son: Jerry Oliver Thompson, II; his brothers: Eddie Thompson (Cheryl) and Jimmy Thompson; his sisters: Patty Bower (Norman) and Paula Cunningham (Rick); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 10-11:30 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at Stjude.org/donate or the Shriner’s Hospital at Donate.shrinerschildrens.org/give as they held a special place in Jerry’s heart.
