Joan Marie (Sakers) Hogate

Joan Marie Hogate, age 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother returned to her heavenly home in the arms of Jesus on August 4, 2023 after a long illness.  Joan was known for her love of her family, her love of cats and her kindness to all. Joan loved her family dearly.

She worked hard to provide and care for her four children.  She worked at Dutch Pantry for many years, and later retired from Hillside Oil.  Joan was a long-time member of Friendship Baptist Church.  

Joan was born to the late Fredrick and Mildred Sakers in Chester, PA.  She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas Hogate, and her twin sister, Janet Clark. She was blessed with 4 children: Robert Connell (Susan), of Elkton, MD, Nancy Connell of Bear, DE, William Connell of Newark, DE, and Sandra Spiller (Joe), of North East, MD. When Joan married Tom, she proudly became stepmother to Thomas Hogate, Jr. (Kim) and Cheryl Stewart (David).  Joan is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and nephews, Fred and Scott.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home at 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.  Burial will be privately held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
