John Timmons Obituary

John R. Timmons, age 79 of Bear, Delaware formerly of New York and South Carolina passed away on August 29, 2022.

John was the ninth of sixteen children of DeWitt and Ruth Timmons. He was born and raised in Mullins, South Carolina where he earned his high school diploma. In 1968, he moved to New York and began working for the New York City Board of Elections. John started his career as a voting machine technician and later became a supervisor. He remained employed with the NYC Board of Elections for forty years until his retirement in 2004. Upon retirement, John and his wife Loretta relocated to Bear, Delaware.

John was a true believer in the Lord and was raised in the Methodist faith. He later became a deacon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. John was well known for his bright smile and his zeal for life. His jokes and stories were bound to make you laugh. He had tremendous positive energy and was very optimistic, which is why he is loved by so many. He was a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will truly be missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and DeWitt Timmons and eight of his siblings. John leaves to mourn his wife of thirty-eight years, Loretta A. Timmons; seven children: Jauquet Timmons, Vennesila Harvey Faison, Trina Harvey Bryant, John R. Timmons, Ayanna Castro (Mario), Darian Mobley and Lela Banks; fifteen grandchildren: Antonio Mouzon (Alicia), Jaquan Bryant (Jaclyn), Anjelica Lewis (Ryan), John “Bear” Harvey, Ashley Richardson, Darryl Bryant, Javonnie Harvey, Lexus Hicks, Devin Bryant, Romello Faison, Rashard Banks, Eva Banks, Taylor Castro, Shelby Castro, Jayce Timmons; eleven great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Lewis, Saint Lewis; Kingsley Faison, Amarion Knight, Lily Bryant, Avionnah Wade, Avaeah Wade, Avahni Mouzon, Adonis Mouzon, Isabella Luna Harvey, Aleeah Yvette Harvey and seven siblings: Coralie Ellenton, Corrine Moody, Gwendolyn Lane, Matty Johnson, Dewitt Timmons, Frank Timmons and Leeverne Timmons along with a host of relatives friends who loved him.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment is private.
