John "Jack" Williams, Jr. Obituary

John “Jack” Ellis Williams Jr., 75, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully November 13, 2019 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Jack was born in 1944 in Lynwood, PA to the late John and Priscilla Williams. He attended St. James Catholic School in Chester, PA. In 1967 Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating boot camp in Paris Island, SC, he spent most of his time stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. Jack was an EOD technician and was awarded the National Defense Medal and was a Rifle Sharp Shooter. He served 6 years with the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

While a resident of Delaware, Jack enlisted in the Delaware Air National Guard in 1982. He would spend the next 18 years serving in the guard as an Air Drop Rigger. During this service he had the opportunity to travel the world on many different deployments. While a member of the National Guard, Jack became a veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Jack enjoyed his time in Aerial Port and retired as a Technical Sergeant (TSgt) in 2000.

Jack had a successful career for the State of Delaware. He worked for over 20 years in the Department of Transportation as an equipment operator, retiring in 2002.

Jack really enjoyed watching football on Sundays. He was an avid Eagles fan. He was also an active member of the VFW Post #838 in Port Penn, DE and the Club in Delaware City. Jack enjoyed spending afternoons there with friends.

Jack was a very devoted grandfather. You could find him in the stands for a lacrosse game, a wrestling match, football game, and even a cheerleading competition. His love and support will be deeply missed by his grandchildren.

A devoted husband, Jack is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years Lana (Lombardo) of New Castle, DE. A loving father, he is survived by his son John E. Williams III and wife Jennifer of Clayton, Delaware and is survived by two of the most precious people in his life, his grandson John and granddaughter Kylie both of Clayton, De. Jack is also survived by his Uncle John Carter and Dorothy (Dot) of Wilmington, DE.

Friends may call on Friday November 22, 2019 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Newark, DE 19702. Viewing and services will be from 10 am – 12 pm. A committal service will follow at 1 pm at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701.
