Joseph Chernikovich, age 94, of Pittston, PA, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on February 23, 2026.
Joseph was born in Hanover Township, PA, and was a long-time resident of Newark, Delaware prior to returning to Pennsylvania in 2023. Joseph served as a gunner's mate for the U.S. Navy on several battleships during the Korean War. He also worked for Rheem Manufacturing and Food Fair.
Joseph loved spending time with his beloved wife of 57 years, Jamilia, and family and friends. His many years with Jamilia were truly cherished by him. He was loved by all who met him and known for his kind and happy spirit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jamilia, his parents, Roman Chernikovich and Mary (Rodko), and his brothers, Raymond (Irene) and Paul (Tina) Chernikovich.
Joseph is survived by his nephew: Raymond Chernikovich (Brenda) and nieces: Judith Chernikovich-Clemens (Greg), Kathie Summers (Steve), Kim Bonham (Kevin), Karen Tomalis (Gary); his wife Jamilia’s sister: Isabelle and her brothers: Malcolm (Bonnie) and Tommy (Andrea) as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 10-11:00am at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazier Rd., Newark, DE 19702, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will take place on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701
