Joshua Allen Stepler, age 25, of Newark DE, passed away on April 8, 2023, surrounded by family, after succumbing to his injuries suffered in a pedestrian accident.
Josh’s story starts in 1997, as a gentleman, making way for his sister Jackie, to enter the world before him. Little did we know this was his way of letting his mom and dad (Kathy Sheehan & Douglas Stepler) know: you ain’t seen nothing yet!
When Josh was little it wasn’t often you’d see him alone. He always had his partner in crime. His twin. Josh and Jackie were intertwined. When Josh was a daredevil, Jackie was rooting in the wings. When Josh was turning on the water, Jackie was filling the buckets. When Josh got out the scissors, Jackie was cutting their hair. When Josh snuck all the candy, Jackie was hiding it in their room. Although I don’t think Jackie was involved with the chicken, but you get the picture.
Life for Josh changed dramatically when he was 6 when his dad suddenly passed away. This brought about a lot of confusion, anger, and sadness. Emotions that are difficult for most adults to endure he had to bear, but he kept going.
Josh was very persistent and determined. Ever since he was little, if he would ask for something, a drink, some candy, an extra dessert, and the answer was no, he would quickly follow up with, how bout now? Just to make sure you hadn’t changed your mind. His mom especially loved that about him.
As the years went on, Josh loved his video games, hanging with his friends and was notorious for his love of music. Music took him places where he could relax and be himself, but so did that ‘L’ ride. A highlight for Josh was going to a Juice Wrld concert and meeting Juice Wrld. There wasn’t a moment you didn’t hear Josh reciting those lyrics or see him lip syncing on his Instagram stories.
Josh lived a lot in his lifetime, and there should be pages and pages to recount Josh’s life, because it truly looked like he had nine lives, but there aren’t. His light was dimmed too soon.
Even so, his life is not without having many, many friends and family who loved and cared about him.
Josh is predeceased by his dad, Douglas Stepler.
Josh is survived by his mom, Kathryn (Brad), his twin sister Jackie (Roger), his brothers Ryan & Michael (Sandra) and his older sister Jennifer. Josh is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, being especially close with cousins, Caitlyn, and Jalen.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A memorial service will follow beginning at 12:00 pm at Beeson Funeral Home
