Joyce Payne

Joyce Woodard Payne, 88, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024.

Born and raised in Creston, NC, Joyce married the love of her life, Willie Earl Payne in 1955.  That same year, they moved to Delaware and later, she became a mother of two.  She loved being a homemaker and a mother to her children and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Earl Payne; her daughter, Elaine Mazanet; two brothers, R.C. and Royce Woodard; and her sister, Mary Lewis.

Joyce is survived by her son, David E Payne and his wife Elaine Marie (Middletown, DE); two grandchildren and their spouses, Julianne and her husband, Sean (Camden, DE) and David Ryan Payne and his wife, Courtney (Dover, DE); three great-grandchildren, Owen Jacob Conaway, Reese Loren Payne and Grady Ryan Payne; a sister, Wilmanel Overstreet (Lincolnton, NC); several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Agnes Wright and her husband, Ed.

Services will take place on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 11:00am, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 at Beeson Funeral Home of Newark, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
