Kevin Snyder Obituary

Kevin L. Snyder, age 56, of Bear, Delaware formerly of Milford, Delaware, died suddenly on Monday March 23, 2020.

Kevin was known for his sarcasm, wit, generosity, intelligence, and humor. His passion for teaching music came second only to his love for his Delaware Army National Guard Family. He was a proud service member of the Armed Forces. He inspired children to develop a love and appreciation of music for 30 years. Kevin loved traveling and exploring ancient sites. When he wasn’t traveling, he was immersed in reading about history and archeology while always keeping his next adventure in mind. His dog Allie and cat Kayleigh were his beloved animal companions. Other favorite pastimes included watching professional international soccer matches (Go Arsenal!) and sharing a drink with his close-knit group of friends.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Delaware State University and a Master of Music in Music Education from West Chester University.

He was a music educator for 30 years in the Christina School District. West Park Place Elementary School in Newark, Delaware was his home school for the majority of his career.

He was a decorated member of the Delaware Army National Guard for 35 years and also served on active duty for 3 years in the Army. During his years of service, he received multiple awards, including 3 Army Commendation medals, a Meritorious Service medal, a Legion of Merit medal, and a Delaware Conspicuous Service Cross. He retired in 2016 as a First Sergeant of the 287th Army Band.

Kevin was predeceased by his mother Mary Snyder (nee Carty) and his father Donald Snyder. He is survived by his National Guard Family, the friends he chose to be his family, and the students who will forever remember him as their music teacher.

Services are yet to be determined.
