Kofi Bissah Obituary

Kofi Ayensu Bissah, 62, was a father, husband, son, brother, cousin and uncle that we will cherish and celebrate our time with. It has been a pleasure to know him in his time here and we will take the lasting spirit he leaves behind with us.

Born and raised in Accra, Ghana to Opanin Kwabena Bissah and Abena Adjeiwaa, Kofi Ayensu Bissah emigrated to the United States of America where he attended Howard University to become an inventor and a chemist. With scholarship and resilience, while driving a cab, Kofi was able to put himself through University, graduating in 4 years and eventually taking a job at Procter & Gamble. After a few years, Kofi left Procter & Gamble and spent his next 17 years at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) as a research fellow. His time at J&J was very successful. His work in research and leadership established him as a leader of teams that led to numerous successful patents, as well as many applications and trials for the company. He finished his long Chemical Engineering career at Lycra as a Senior Product Development Specialist.

Kofi’s dedication to chemistry, invention and entrepreneurism carried over into his personal life as well. In his free time, he was often working on many personal inventions and products, ranging from lotion to elastic materials. He co-owned a Pharmacy in New Jersey for a period time and often made like-minded friendships in pursuit of his entrepreneurial goals. His mind truly revolved around the inventive and scientific. Whenever Kofi discussed an invention or product that he was currently working on, his excitement could not be contained. A chemist that dreamt only of the possibility. Outside of chemistry, Kofi enjoyed sports, particularly Soccer and American Football. He was a fan of his home national Soccer team for Ghana, The Black Stars, and a general NFL fan with an affinity for the Giants. He was a participant in recreational football leagues throughout the 90’s. Along with sports, Kofi enjoyed music and traveling. His work took him to many places such as Brazil, Thailand, Japan, and Canada to name a few. Within the states, he enjoyed going to Virginia and Florida for family and vacation.

Kofi was a devout Christian and found a foundation and church everywhere that he settled. He was a man of prayer and was always looking to strengthen his relationship with God. He held strong to the belief that as long as you were here on Earth you could be working to get better. Improvement never stopped.

Kofi was predeceased by his father (Late Opanin Kwabena Bissah) and survived by his mother Abena Adjeiwaa.

He is survived by his spouse Martha O. Asiedu and their children Kofi Bissah and Nana Yaa Bissah along with his eldest children Kofi A. Bissah II and Esi Bissah, respectively. He is survived by his sisters and brothers: Mary Kessewa Bissah, Agnes Compton, Gina Mensah, Paul Kwakye Bissah, Comfort Amma Bissah, Amma Pomah Marfo, Matilda Amma Bissah, Bernard Orei Bissah, Dorothy Eno Bissah and Edmund Bissah. He is survived by his aunts and uncles Mr. E B Cudjoe, Kwaku Badu Armooh, Peter Kofi Armoo, Maame Twewa, Maame Tano, Cecilia Armoo and Agnes Armoo. He is survived in friendship with David Darko, Nicholas Ananeagyei and Charles Konadu-Adjei. Kofi had 23 nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.
