Laura M. Herlehy (nee Hofferberth), age 97, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, December 22, 2024.
Laura was born in Alexander Bay, New York in 1927, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Pierce) Hofferberth. While living in upstate New York, she met Anthony Walter Herlehy and they were married in 1950. Together, they enjoyed many years of fishing, boating, and visiting with their family.
Laura loved to bowl and was a member of a bowling league for 50 years. She worked part time during the Christmas season at Avon and then decided to go back to school to become a nurse, which she had always wanted to do. She finished her education and at the age of 40, was hired as a nurse at the University of Delaware, where she worked until her retirement.
Laura loved the beach and had many friends down there to spend time with. Her husband had a charter boat and she would look for him coming into the inlet every time he would have a fishing party.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony in 2006 and her sister, Ruth Davis.
She is survived by her only daughter: Kathleen Herlehy-Douglass (G. Stewart), her grandson: B. Stewart Douglass (Courtney), and her great-grandchildren: Riley B. Douglass and Julie Ann Ward.
