Lawrence Carosino Obituary

Lawrence E. Carosino, age 94, of Glen Mills, PA, and formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 10, 2025 at Ivy Creek Gracious Retirement Living.

Born in 1930 in Seattle, Washington, Lawrence was raised by William & Nora Lampert and their family after the deaths of his father and brother. He attended O’Dea Catholic High School, graduating in 1949. Lawrence left Seattle to attend the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1952. Upon graduation, Lawrence moved to Wilmington, Delaware to take a position as a research chemist with the Hercules Powder Company. His 35-year career took him from the Naval Stores Division to the Agricultural Chemicals group. In 1999, he was named a Hero of Chemistry by the American Chemical Society for his work in developing pectin-based additives for food production. It was at Hercules that he met his wife, Helen. They married in 1962 and were together 48 years until her death in 2010.

Apart from his scientific pursuits, Lawrence was known for his devotion to the Church, participating actively in Catholic organizations throughout his life. As an active member of St. Helena’s Church in Wilmington, Delaware, he served as a cantor, member of the choir and general volunteer for over 50 years. Lawrence was particularly devoted to the Blessed Mother, serving in the Blue Army for many years.

Lawrence is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Teresa Carosino of Newark, DE, and his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine (Carosino) Subick and Leonard Subick of Spring City, PA.
