Leland George Simpson, more affectionately called “Red”, age 79, of Bear, DE, formerly of Summerville, PA, passed away January 7, 2021 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.
Red graduated from Brookville High School in 1959. He worked for Chrysler Corporation at the Newark Assembly Plant from 1964 to 1997. After retiring from full time work, he contracted with Chrysler until the mid 2000s before his final employment at the Newark Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership as their beloved shuttle driver until late 2019. He was a devout Steelers fan, a longtime NASCAR fan and loved taking camping trips with his family.
Red is survived by his wife, Ellen “Kathy” Simpson; sons and their spouses, Kirk and Lesa Simpson, Eric and Geebee Simpson, Mike Simpson, Joe and Theresa Simpson, Brian and Heather Simpson; grandchildren, Eric, Katie, Allie, Anna, Lucy and Luke; his sister, Arlene Clowes; brother, Charles E. Simpson and his wife, Pem Simpson; several loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702, where visitation will begin at 2:00 PM. Burial will be private. All attending will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing to maintain compliance with State COVID-19 Regulations. Admittance will be regulated.
