American Veteran 06

Ludwig Roman Puszkarczuk

April 1, 2020

Ludwig Roman Puszkarczuk, age 70 of Bear, DE (formerly of Rockaway, NJ) died on April 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. An immigrant from Germany, he arrived in the US with his parents on board the General C. H. Muir, the last ship processed through Ellis Island.  Ludwig was a retired Army Sergeant and had received the Bronze Star Medal and Silver Service Star during his service. He was a certified HVAC specialist and electrician and worked for 31 years as a plant engineer.

Ludwig belonged to the Polish Falcons all his life. He was an avid and self-taught guitarist and enjoyed many years playing with the St. Cecilia's and St. Bernard's Folk Groups. He passed his love of music to his children and grandchildren, and family Christmas concerts were a much loved tradition.

Affectionately known as "Dziadziu" ("grandpa" in Polish) he was a loving husband and father.  He was a consummate handyman who spent countless hours on auto repair and home improvement projects at home and for extended family and friends. While he didn't speak much, he had a quiet wit and was apt to crack a joke at just the right moment.

Ludwig supported his family through the tragic loss of their infant son Thomas, and granddaughter Angel.  His stoic love was a pillar of strength on which everyone could lean.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Joanna and three children Michele Lambert and husband Martin of Havertown, PA, Robert and wife Iwona of Pelham, NH and Ivona Walker and husband Joseph of Hillsborough, NC, six grandchildren Alindra, Alexander, Anna, Adam, Thomas, and Lillian as well as his sister Maria Swanenburg and her husband Fred of Coatesville, PA.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church from 11:30 to 12:30 on Thursday July 2, 2020 with a committal service to follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
