Marie B. Price peacefully passed away on June 1, 2024. Born on May 4, 1931, the Force was certainly with her for 93 years. Her passing was poignant. Bedridden, she was unable to attend Saint Mark’s High School graduation, but listened to the livestream when her precious angel Ethan’s name was called. Later, Ethan was at her bedside and read the words on his diploma. Shortly thereafter she transpired.
Marie was born in Vienna, MD and primarily grew up in Cambridge. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948. Over the many years since, she has kept in close contact with her classmates and regularly attended the frequent reunions they held. Often the reunions were at Suicide Bridge Restaurant, one of her favorites.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard R. Jones, Sr. in 1969 and then in 2007 by Henry L. Price. While tragic, the one that hurt the most, was losing her beloved, youngest son, Gary L. Jones in 2020.
Marie is survived by sons Howard (Ray) Jones Jr. (Denise), Walter Jones, and Allen Jones as well as stepdaughter Donna Marioni. Her grandchildren are Jennifer (Carlos), Kelly, Jeremy (Erica) and step grandchildren Laurie (Fred), Michael, and Kay. She also very much loved her nine great grandchildren Ethan, Peyton, Aaron, Carlos, Meadow, Paul, Miranda, Rachel, and Andrew.
Marie, by profession, was a bookkeeper, clerk, and secretary. She always excelled in whatever task they gave her. She worked with many businesses over the years. Notably were the Mills Dairy, in Cambridge, where she met Howard. In 1966, she and her family moved to New Castle, DE and she soon found employment at ICI America where she was to meet Henry whom she married in 1977. In semi-retirement, one of her favorite workplaces was as secretary for Rev. Norman Poultney at Red Lion Methodist Church in Bear. She was a go-to person there for all manner of situations. The Force in her life was her God and his son, Jesus Christ. She was a very devout Christian and read her Bible daily.
Service to her community was very important to Marie. Along with volunteering in practically every event at Red Lion Church, she also spent much time at the Little Sisters of the Poor and Meals on Wheels.
She was a very active person who loved to travel and visited London, San Diego, San Fransico, and Hawaii, where she flew in a helicopter and rode in a submarine. There were too many trips to mention to various places with her best friend, Beverly, and others. Unfortunately, in her last years, she was severely limited in what she could do. The family would like to pay heartfelt thanks to some of those who tenderly took care of her in these last four years, Lydia, Rose, Josselin, Connie, and Kathy; our hearts go out to you. Thank you so very much.
Marie’s funeral service will be held at Red Lion United Methodist Church, 1545 Church Road, Bear, Delaware 19701 on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 am. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery on Port Penn Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Little Sisters of the Poor, Meals on Wheels, or a favorite charity of the donor in her name.
