Obituary

Marjorie Graham Lake, age 93, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Complete Care Brackenville with her family by her side.

Marge attended Walnut Green School, an “old one room school house” as a child living at home in Greenville, DE with parents, Tot and Clyde and her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Alexis IDuPont High School in 1948. After graduating she went to work at Wilmington Trust where she often had to stay late to “zero out other peoples’ drawers”. Across the street was the DuPont building where her sister Eunice worked and they often met for lunch. It was here that she met Fred, the love of her life. She then left Wilmington Trust and went to DuPont’s to work also, at least until Fred proposed and they got married in 1956.

Although she worked outside the home when they met, after Marge had children, her job was her home and children and everything that included. When the kids were young, Marge was very active in the Silverbrook Church, along with Fred, under Reverand Gordy. Marge was also active in the Newark United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School when the family lived there. Marge and Fred moved to New Jersey in 1980. When their beloved son, Jeff, passed away in 1982, they met the Reverend Paul Watermulder, pastor of the Woodstown Presbyterian Church. Paul and his wife, Genie, made a lifelong imprint on Marge and Fred who often babysit their 4 children. Marge and Fred moved back to Delaware in 1990 and were members of several different churches, including Union United Methodist Church, which is the church Marge attended as a child.

Marge and Fred were happily married for over 50 years. Marge is preceded in death by her husband: Fred, her son: Jeff, her parents: Catherine ”Tot” and Clyde, brothers: Marshall, Allen, and Sam, and her sister, Eunice,

Marge is survived by her daughters: Cindy Calio  (Larry) and Karen Tyczkowski (Sig); her sister: Cathy Jester; 6 grandchildren: Chris, Matt, Brian, Katie, Steve, and Andrew; 2 great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Harper; and many other members of the extended family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be private at a later date.
