Mark Guilday, age 63, passed away at Christiana Hospital on June 28, 2021 from lung cancer.
He was born in Wilmington, DE in 1957 to Francis and Marie Guilday.
He attended Holy Spirit School and St. Elizabeth's High School. He spent his entire career in the restaurant business. Mark Initially learned the business from his father at The Ranch House in Wilmington DE. He spent the last 32 years of his life as co-owner of Guilday's Restaurant in Newark, DE with his sister Regina. Mark was instrumental in building the breakfast trade, opening early in the morning and greeting the first customers of the day. He was an amazing short order cook who enjoyed interacting with his customers, many of whom would become life long friends.
Mark loved drag racing and sponsored cars at Cecil County Drag Way. He was a dedicated fan of the Oakland Raiders. Mark always remembered going to Las Vegas with his father and his brother Tom to watch the big game from one of Vegas’s renowned Super Bowl parties.
He is survived by his siblings John Guilday and his wife Patricia of Bethany Beach, DE, Tom Guilday of Janesville, WI, Regina Guilday-Blythe and her husband Bill of Wilmington, DE and Kathryn Kirwin and her husband Tommy of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Steven, Matthew, Kelly, Corinne, Kevin and Christopher. He will be deeply missed by the family and his many friends and co-workers. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to his friend Sandy who was of great help to Mark through his illness and a great comfort at the end.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday July 7, 2021 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE. Family and friends may begin visitation at 9:30am. The private burial will be in Newtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the America Cancer Society.
