Mary A. (Johnson) Klein

Mary Klein, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on the morning of January 6th, 2023 after a brief illness. She was 91 years old.

Born in Scotland in 1931 to parents James and Mary (McKinnon) Johnson, Mary spent he first 7 years of her life in Ireland before her family moved back to Scotland. In 1948 she met and married Wilhelm Klein whom she was married to for 49 years until his death in 1998. In 1980 she, her husband, her son Peter and daughter Eva emigrated to the United States where she lived the rest of her life.

Mary was affectionately known as "Mum" to her 6 children, but was known to her 20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and just about everyone else as "Grannie". She was the quintessential matriarch of her family and would give the last of anything she possessed to anyone she could help. Her home was filled with pictures of all her children and grandchildren. She wore them as a badge of honor.

Her home, wherever it was, always provided a warm and loving place for her family to come for a visit. She was always ready with a cup of tea and snacks and loved to sit and discuss her Scottish roots. Mary loved returning as often as possible back to her native Scotland to see her family and relatives. Other favorite pastimes included playing bingo, playing the lottery, listening to opera music and whenever she got the opportunity, to go to the casino and spend hours playing every variant of slot machines.

Mary never remarried after the death of her husband Wilhelm, who pre-deceased her by 25 years. She is survived by her daughters Mary Quinlan, Barbara Marco (Jim) and Eva Brown (Bill) and sons William Klein, Philip Morgan-Klein (Brenda) and Peter Klein (Maria).

A viewing will take place on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 1:00 pm at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, PA.
