Maryella R. (Harrington) Rivera

Maryella Rivera, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Christiana Hospital in Newark.

Maryella was born in Oxford, PA to the late McLeonard B Harrington and the late Ruth M (Hunter) Harrington. She worked at the Corporation Trust Co. Maryella was an avid book reader who enjoyed jigsaw and work game puzzles, and loved to watch the Hummingbirds feeding on her patio.

Along with Maryella’s parents she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Rivera, a son, Steven Rivera, two grandchildren, Francis Rivera and Robert Rivera and daughter-in-law Bonnie (Anderson) Rivera. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Bowman (Roger) of Elkton MD, and two sons, Rodger (Ruth) of Delaware City, and Rodney (Patty) of Bear, a sister, Wilma Harrington of Athens, GA, grandchildren Ruth Anne, Kimberly, Amy, Rodney, Jeremy, Kenneth, Abby, and Jennifer 22 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express our thanks to the staff of the Vero in Newark for the care given to Maryella. She came to think of everyone as her family as well, and her last desire was to be home in her apartment.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be private at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date.
