Matthew “Matt” Ott, age 39, of Newark, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Matt was a man whose heart was as big as his smile. He loved his hometown teams, the Phillies, the Eagles, and the Flyers, and could always be counted on to bring passion and pride to every game day. Sports were just part of a life defined by loyalty, compassion, and a deep devotion to the people he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; his brother, Justin (Maddy); his grandmother, Charlotte; his sister-in-law Lauren (Damien), and his many cherished nieces and nephews (Alexis, Grace, Faith, Hank, Maddy, Fred Jr. aka Lil man, Laney, Savannah, and Bella). Matt also leaves countless friends, Fred (Sarah); Dwane (Rachel); Charles (Courtney); and many more — an entire community of people lucky enough to call him family. He was well-loved at his workplace, Smithfield, and will be greatly missed by his numerous friends and coworkers.
Matt was predeceased by his father, Darrell, and his uncle Ryan, whom he cherished and loved until their last moments.
Known for his generous spirit, Matt never turned away someone in need. His kindness was constant, quiet, and without expectation. He had a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and loved.
Matt’s passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who knew him. Yet his spirit, full of kindness, humor, and unwavering love, will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 12-1:00 pm at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 pm. The requested attire for the funeral procession is to wear your favorite sports outfits and to dress comfortably.
