Michael D. Mitchell, age 62 of Newark, DE passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Christiana Care Hospital ICU in Newark, Delaware. Michael was the son of Claude K. Mitchell Sr. and the late Barbara C. Mitchell.

Michael attended William Penn High School and Hodgson Vocational Technical school and was a graduate of James H. Groves Adult High School in Wilmington.

Mike, as he was called by all of his friends there, worked at Peoples Plaza as a facilities manager for 20 years.

Mike had many hobbies but loved fishing the best, preferably saltwater fishing from a boat, and the deeper the water the better he liked it. He loved amusement parks, especially thrill rides, and went with his family or companions whenever he had the chance.

Mike was baptized at Newark United Methodist Church on Main Street in Newark, Delaware. Mike was confirmed at NUMC in the early 1980s. He married Sharon Dobbins of Newark, Delaware on November 17th, 1990. They were married at the Historic Little Wedding Chapel on Main Street in Elkton, Maryland. Together they had one son, Ryan Michael Mitchell. Mike and Sharon were married 6+ years.

Michael is survived by his son: Ryan Mitchell; his father: Claude K. Mitchell Sr; his girlfriend: Patricia Murphy-Valentine “Tish”; his brother: Martin (Jacqualynn); his four nephews: Christopher , Benjamin, Claude K. Mitchel, III, and Morgan; a beloved Aunt: Elizabeth Gellens; an uncle: Frank Mitchell; and many loving cousins and second cousins.

Besides his mother Michael is predeceased by his brothers: Claude K. Mitchell, Jr., Daniel Mitchell, and Shawn Mitchell; grandparents: Felix and Helena Mitchell on his father’s side and Salvatore Rampolla and Carole Clay Ward on his mother’s side; as well as, his uncles: John Mitchell, Steve Osbourne and Tony Ward; and Aunts: Bertie Carrow, Kay Parsons, Ann Pedrick.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, DE following services.
